What Was Jeremy Pruitt Thinking?

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

The firing of Jeremy Pruitt at Tennessee could be seen coming a mile away. No one goes 3-7 in Year 3 and hauls in the type of recruits he was without something suspicious going on. He had Tennessee beating out Georgia and Alabama for talent with less personality than Nick Saban. Not to say Georgia and Alabama are squeaky clean on the recruiting front but you can‘t just go around handing out happy meals with rubber band banks as substitute for toys. Tennessee was absolutely right in canning Pruitt and pushing Fulmer into retirement. The hire of Danny White as AD is a great hire in my opinion. It provides a breath of fresh air to the good ole boy network that‘s been running the program the past few years. He was responsible for the hiring Scott Frost at UCF which worked out really well and when Frost left found a solid replacement in Josh Heupel. His track record should provide the Vol fanbase with confidence a solid hire will be made even though sanctions will most likely be the result of the NCAA investigation. While the state of Tennessee isn’t the most talent rich in the country the cities of Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville are all within a 3 to 4 hour drive of Knoxville and produce plenty of players. The right hire could come in and within 2 to 3 years really turn the program around with some solid, by the rule book recruiting.
